ACHIEVEMENTS:

Establishment of KECOFISH Project Advisory Committee in February.
Plan project inception workshop at the end of March.
Meetings with partners Kenya Fisheries Service, Wildlife Conservation Society and Kwale County Fisheries Department.
Recruitment of marine programme coordinator.
Plan meeting with Lamu County fisheries department, local fishing communities and Kenya Fisheries Service to select project sites in March.
Identification of NGOs and government officials to form part of the Project Advisory Committee
Preparation of project M & E framework.

EXPECTED OUTPUTS:

New innovative solutions to remaining challenges will be co-created with communities in Shimoni-Vanga and Lamu, Kenya providing the evidence and prototypes to support regional scaling.
Community-led, low cost fisheries data collection system implemented and informning fisheries management in at least 10 Beach Management Units.
A total of 20 Village Savings & Loan Associations (VSLAs) (10 in Lamu and 10 in Shimoni-Vanga) are established and have increased financial literacy and inclusion, facilitating increased economic resilience in coastal communities.
Capacity building for at least two joint Collaborative Fisheries Management Areas (JCMAsà, consisting of 10 Beach Management Units covering 90,000 hectares.
New and innovative prototypes to address post-harvest losses and improved market access are co-developed with the communities in Lamu and Shimoni-Vanga seascapes.
Facilitate at least 4 cross learning visits through exchanges between co-management stakeholders and communities to facilitate further scaling with Kenya region.

ACTIVITIES:

Local successful SSF prototypes will be scaled to deliver organised and effective co-management in two important regions in coastal Kenya (Shimoni-Vanga and Lamu seascapes)
